It’s time for another GPS tracker review and we would be out-of-line to not immediately mention the special feature of the Logistimatics that sets it apart from other devices that we’ve reviewed: its audio capability. The Logistimatics has its own phone number that you can call. It immediately picks up and transmits one-way audio from the device to your phone.
Weighing only 7oz and at only 3.6″ in its largest dimension, the device is lightweight and discrete. It is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that can be charged by a micro USB port on the device. It also comes with a magnetic case that can be attached to the underside of a vehicle. Battery life is affected primarily by how often the device reports its location. Logistimatics offers a backup battery option that you can check out here. We found that the battery lasts just under a week
How to Use the Live Audio Feature of the Logistimatics
To set up the live audio calling feature of the Logistimatics, you have to set up a phone number inside the app as an “SOS Number.” You can set up to three, but one is required to use the live audio feature. These are the only phone numbers that can link to the device when setting up the live audio feature. If you call the device from a number that is not an SOS number, it won’t connect.
When you navigate to the “commands” area inside the app, you should see two categories: Report mode and Alert numbers. Below alert numbers, you select “Set SOS Numbers.” This is where you add numbers that can access the device’s live audio. Enter the number you wish to call from. The tracker will reply back with “OK!” followed by your SOS phone number.
That’s it – you’re good to for using the live audio feature! All you need to do is call the device and you’re instantly connected.
Can People Hear me Calling the Device?
No – the device only has one way audio. People in location of the device receive no notification that the device is listening in. Please remember – the device does not record, it only listens.
Setting Up the Logistimatics
The device is designed to be a discrete vehicle tracker ideal for those looking to keep a watchful eye on a cheating spouse or valued vehicle. The device comes with a magnetic enclosure that allows it to be put under a vehicle. The tracker does not have to use the magnetic enclosure, it could work just as fine within a glove box or really anywhere inside a vehicle.
It’s quite durable, too. It can with stand temperatures -4F to 158F. The device can be configured l
Logistimatics Monthly Fee
Unlike the Vyncs, the Logistimatics has a monthly fee that kicks in immediately rather than one year after owning it. Currently, the fee is $14.95 per month.
Downside: 2G Only
The biggest downside of the Logistimatics is the fact that it charges a monthly fee but only offers 2G. Almost all phone are 4G and, with 5G coming soon, the Logistimatics really needs to justify its hefty monthly fee with a larger network.
The app can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or phone. The app shows trip history, a list of alerts, and general option settings. You can fetch the device’s location at any time, or get updated reports every five minutes or when the device is moving (every 30 seconds). The trip history uses Google Maps and can be pinpointed to any address. There is a backlog of previous trips and how long the device was stopped.
Wrapping it Up…
The Logistimatics is only worth it if you are insistent on the audio feature. Otherwise, it’s probably worth getting a different device. Why? Well, the 2G cell phone infrastructure it relies on is phasing out. The nearly $15 per month fee doesn’t do much to help us feel better about it, either. If the monthly fee were smaller it might be worth it. Right now, though, there are better devices on the market for pure location tracking. You really are primarily paying for the audio feature with this device. Thanks for reading!
