Note: This review is part of a larger review series on GPS pet trackers. We recently put together a buying guide for GPS dog collars that compares this one to many others on the market. Thanks for reading!
The Gibi GPS pet tracker is an interesting addition to the pet tracker market. It has quite a few similarities to other GPS pet trackers, but it also offers some cool new customization options. Like all the others, it functions with an app but is unique in that the app can be logged into on a desktop as well as an Android or iOS device. The app can also track multiple pets! Check out our detailed review below or check it out on Amazon.
The Gibi comes with the tracker itself and an attachment that cradles the tracker. It does NOT include a collar to attach it to. This is a bummer but it is not unlike a few of the other GPS pet trackers we’ve reviewed. Some devices have the tracker built into the collar.
The box includes the pet tracking device, attachment clip, charging cable, USB cable, AC adapter for charging, and a user guide. (Remember – you attach it to your own collar) Gibi assigns each device a unique ID which is used to create an account with the app and subscribe to the service.
Like most GPS pet trackers (except for the Nuzzle), the Gibi requires a monthly service plan to function. The cost is $9.99 but there’s an annual billing option for $99.
Like all the other pet trackers we checked out, it does not require a SIM card. What we liked about it is that it combines the network coverage of T-Mobile and AT&T. This is great for people who live in a place where one of those services isn’t great. Most other GPS pet trackers use only AT&T’s network.
GPS Pet Tracker App
What sets Gibi’s app apart from some of the competition is that you can track your pet on a computer as well as through the phone/tablet app. When you first login to your account, the map will center the location and guide you through a short setup process. The device is accurate within 10 feet and the app will alert you if your pet leaves the designated “Safe Zone” that you setup within the app.
Also really neat: the app allows you to track multiple pets within the single app. This is great for people looking to get trackers for all of their animals! There’s also a history option within the app to see where your dog has been traveling throughout the day.
The app is useful for the core feature: finding your dog, but unlike other pet trackers we’ve checked out it is not that robust. It does not have any extra features like activity tracking, temperature notifications, or reminders like the LINK AKC Smart Dog Collar does.
The Gibi comes with everything you need to charge it up. We found that the battery lasted close to 3 full days but it could also be shorter depending on the environment and different settings. You have the option to change the “Check In Rate,” which is how often the device tells the app its location. The shorter the check in interval, the shorter the battery life will last. Out of the box, the pet tracker is set to check in every 15 minutes. You can change it to one minute or even one hour. This battery customization option is a lot similar to the XY GPS Dog Collar we recently reviewed. We really liked the charge time – it took us only 2 hours to fully recharge the device.
The device itself is durable but none of its features are truly unique. The Gibi is IP67 waterproof-certified which means that, as long as your dog isn’t scuba diving, the tracker should be just fine. This is true of many of the other pet trackers we’ve checked out. Other than that, there really aren’t any extra special features.
Wrapping It Up
The Gibi really only has one feature: tracking your dog. It does that well – but if you’re looking for a slightly more expensive device that does not have a monthly fee or if you want a device with a more robust app, you might want to check out our GPS dog collar buyer’s guide. Otherwise, you can click here to check out the Gibi on Amazon.
