Here at Findable Goods, it has been a struggle to find GPS trackers that don’t require a monthly fee. While there are several advertised on the market has no monthly fee, they are generally unreliable. For now, we think the Vyncs is not only one of the best GPS car trackers available but also one of the best with no monthly fees.
A GPS tracker with no monthly fee? What’s the catch?
The Vyncs is a little more expensive to buy into ($15-$20 more than others on the market). However, that completely offsets the cost of similar devices and their monthly fees. The Vyncs makes up for that extra money by not having a monthly fee. There’s an initial $10 setup cost – but that’s peanuts compared to other devices on the market.
The only real catch is that that the SIM card inside is only valid for one year. After that, it’s around $70 per year. Seems steep at first, but that ends up only being around $6 per month. There’s also no contract! If you’re now doubting the Vyncs as being the best GPS tracker with no monthly fee, maybe you’ll be convinced by it’s wide range of features. Let’s check out the specs!
What is an OBD tracker?
An OBD tracker plugs into your car’s OBD port, which is basically your car’s computer. It’s the port that’s inside the little compartment somewhere on your dashboard. Mechanics and car dealerships plug into it to get valuable data on your car’s health. The Vyncs shows you much of this data. Don’t worry – it’s not bulky and can be covered up by the panel that covers your OBD port. Not sure where your OBD port is? Click here to find out.
Here’s a rundown of most of the stuff you can see through the Vyncs app about your car:
- Real-time location
- Trip history
- MPH throughout the trip
- Fuel level and fuel economy (MPG)
- Recall information
- Stop points along the map
- Tamper alert (if the device is removed)
- Curfew hours notifications
- Maintenance information
- Vehicle recall alerts
There’s a lot more information that you can tap into with the Vyncs – and it’s all powered through the app. We’ll get to that later. First, let’s cover our next favorite feature of the Vyncs: battery life.
How do you charge the Vyncs?
The best part isn’t only that it has no monthly fee. The Vyncs requires no charging at all! Once you plug it in your car’s OBD port, it uses the car to power it. Don’t worry – it won’t drain your car’s battery – you can leave it plugged in without needing a jump!
An App that Shows Fuel Levels, Emissions Levels, and Driver Health
All of the features above are able to be viewed on your computer or on the Vyncs phone app. The app is really user friendly and easy to set up. You can have “driver profiles” if you have multiple vehicles or drivers. These profiles are specific to each different Vyncs tracker that you have.
When you open the app, you immediately see driver health, trip health, emissions level, and fuel level. All of these are ranked out of 100 and are based on data from the driver’s vehicle. These numbers update frequently as the car is driven. The Vyncs takes things into account like average speed, braking, and rapid acceleration to come up with these numbers. Remember – you can view all of this data on both your computer and through the phone app (screenshots below).
There’s also a map that has pinpoints of the driver’s history. You can see trip summaries, previous locations, and how long the vehicle was located in that location. You can also setup geofence alerts that will alert you if the driver leaves a certain radius. A geofence is a virtual barrier that is configurable within the Vyncs desktop and phone apps.
Extra Features of the Vyncs
The Vyncs is really versatile – it can be used by families and also dealerships. After the initial year, there are other annual fees that you can choose to subscribe to depending on your need. The first year of having the Vyncs allows you to decide what features you might choose to have later on.
The Best GPS Car Tracker for Teens and Seniors
If there’s a new driver in your house, the Vyncs is a great option to keep an eye on them. As we saw earlier in the review, the data that the Vyncs provides is second to none. It’s great to be able to see the location and speed of your new driver at all times and after trips are completed. If you’re worried about your teen tampering with the device – don’t worry! – it alerts you of that too.
For keeping track of senior drivers, the Vyncs is a great option because of its geofencing capability. If your elderly family member leaves the radius you set up on the app, you immediately get an alert with the vehicle’s location. Although this won’t track your elderly family member themselves, it’s still a good option. If you’re looking for a more personal tracker for an elderly family member, check out our GPS tracker for Seniors buyer’s guide.
Finding Your Stolen Vehicle with a GPS Tracker
If your vehicle was to get stolen, you could find where it is and get the information to the police instantly. Your car will show up on the map immediately. Also – the Vyncs is hard to notice since it plugs into your car’s computer/OBD port. It’s not ultra discrete, though, since it might be noticeable depending on the location of your car’s OBD port.
What about GPS car trackers that do have monthly fees?
We think that the Vyncs even beats GPS trackers with monthly fees. In other words – you’re definitely not missing out on any features if you choose the Vyncs compared to a pricier device. In fact, it beat out several others that do have monthly fees in our buyer’s guide for multiple vehicle tracking systems. There are some great keychain ones, no doubt, but the Vyncs is integrated right into the vehicle. This gives it rich information and data thats available throughout the app.
Please remember that the Vyncs requires a $70 annual fee after the first year. Even with that cost, the device basically pays for itself compared to other GPS trackers on the market. Do you have a Vyncs? Let us know what you think in the comments! Thanks for reading!
