The Automatic PRO AUT-350 is a GPS tracker with no monthly fee that uses your car’s OBD port and gives valuable information about your car in addition to tracking its location. As of now, the device only works in the USA and it uses a 3G connection (like a phone) to update its location to an app in real-time. While it’s not 4G (we haven’t seen a tracker yet that is), the device has no monthly fee for five years – a massive selling point that is not matched by any similar tracker currently on the market.
We’ve found that it’s great for those wanting to keep tabs on their car’s health, a teen driver, or an elderly grandparent. There are several bells-and-whistles unique to the AUT-350 that we will go through below. Thanks for reading!
How to Set Up the Automatic Pro AUT-350
The device is relatively easy to set up and uses your car’s OBD port. You can click here to see where your cars OBD port is located (it’s usually near the pedals or where the spark plugs are in your vehicle). All you have to do is plug it in and it’s good to go. It runs off of your car’s battery, which means that you’ll never need to charge it. Don’t worry – it won’t drain your battery while it’s plugged in! The device is only powered when the engine is on. But since it’s an OBD car connector, it’s not really discrete. If you’re looking for a more discrete GPS tracking device, you can check out our review of the SpyTec GPS tracker.
Connect Your Car to Alexa and More
This is the first OBD device that we’ve reviewed that connects your car to Alexa. Once it’s installed and set up, Alexa will now answer things like “What’s my fuel level?” or “Where is my car located?” It’s pretty handy little extra to make sure you’ll have a smooth commute. The AUT-350 also has integration with IFTTT (If This Then That). If you’re unfamiliar with IFTTT, your can check out the app here. Basically, it allows you to create events based on data about your car or its location. For example, the Automatic PRO can integrate with IFTTT to turn on the lights when you get home.
Here are some other cool IFTTT integrations for your car that would work great with the Automatic PRO AUT-350:
- Open the garage when you turn the corner
- Turn the wifi on your phone off when you turn on your car so that you save your phone battery
- Mute your teen driver’s phone when their car starts
- Receive a text message when your elderly parent or grandparent arrives home safely
- Set up a Nest integration to change the temperature of your home when you leave or get close
While the device has some great tracking features, our excitement for some of the extra features of the device might be a big higher than its tracking capabilities. Nevertheless, it has some great core features that are only enhanced by the devices extra apps and integrations. It has geofencing capabilities that are configurable within the app, parking tracking, and configurable alerts between all of its car tracking features.
Other Important Features
Perhaps the coolest and most important feature of the device is its crash detection feature. If the device detects an accident, it will car your phone and can even call 911 for you. The app is the interface for all of the AUT-350s features – from tracking to car battery life. While other apps on the market have cumbersome and difficult to understand user experience, the Automatic PRO is sleek and we found it easy to figure out.
The app shows you if you have a check engine light, low fuel or battery level, fuel economy, and more. With the check engine light feature – it will not only tell you that there is an issue but it will specify where the issue is occurring – just like the mechanics do! No more expensive diagnostic fees here!
Here is a list of some of our favorite features that you can interact with inside the app (uses iPhone or Android):
- An app store filled with different integrations (business milage trackers, Amazon Alexa, and more)
- Trip tracking
- Parking tracking
- Crash alerts
- Fuel economy (fill up logging)
Automatic PRO vs Vyncs
There are loads of other OBD trackers on the market that tap into your cars computer but don’t track the vehicle. The Vyncs is a similar device to the Automatic PRO that is a bit cheaper and has different features. See our table below for a full comparison.
But is it the right device for your needs?
The device might not be for you if…
- You need a discrete device. Instead, we would recommend the SpyTec GPS Tracker.
- Tracking speed is important. Instead, we would recommend the Vyncs.
The device is perfect for you if…
- You have Amazon Alexa and want to unlock the full potential of the Automatic PRO
- You want to have a full visualization of your car’s health at all times
- You don’t like monthly fees (for real!)
Honestly, the lack of a monthly fee for 5 years makes this device worth it even if you won’t use lots of its extra features. Sure, it’s a bit more costly but that beats paying over $25 per month like with similar devices on the market. The only potential downside we can see is that it’s not very discrete.
